Fiscal Year 2006
December 13, 2005
The 2006 Forest Preserve District of Cook County budget passed today by a vote of 12-4. I voted for it. This budget incorporates many of the reforms that I have been urging over the last three years. This budget insures the preservation of our current land holdings and provides for capitol improvements that are long over due.
This budget also insures that the Brookfield Zoo and Chicago Botanic Garden have the resources they need to serve our visitors.
In the future, we must work to obtain money for land acquisition and expand our restoration activities. The fiscal year 2006 budget for the Forest Preserve District of Cook County was released on November 8, 2005. President Stroger’s budget as introduced for the Forest Preserve District meets the reform agenda that I had previously outlined. Therefore, I will be supporting the budget as introduced.
Friends of the Forest Preserves, Friends of the Parks, Sierra Club, Illinois Chapter and the Audubon Chicago Region have all endorsed the FY06 FPD budget.
