Forest Preserve Budget 2007

Fiscal Year 2007

On November 15, 2006, the Board of Commissioners of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County approved the FY2007 budget, with my support.

The FY07 budget includes increased funding for restoration and management, an additional $1 million for land acquisition (bringing that fund’s balance to $16 million), and six additional police officers whose job will be to patrol the trails of the Forest Preserve.

In addition, I introduced and passed two amendments stating that by April 1, 2007, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County shall enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement with Cook County to merge the Department of Human Resources of the Forest Preserve District and the Department of Finance and Administration of the Forest Preserve District with the appropriate Cook County agencies and all savings from such mergers shall be retained by the Forest Preserve District to be appropriated by the Board.

Friends of the Forest Preserves, Friends of the Parks, Sierra Club, Illinois Chapter, the Audubon Society and the Civic Federation all supported the FY07 budget.
