Prohibits the use of nylon meshing, ordinarily used for the protection of new plants, in the forest preserves. Intended to prevent the accidental ingestion of nylon mesh by animals in these areas.
ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE USE OF NYLON MESHING TO PROTECT NE PLANTS BY WATER AREAS OF THE FOREST PRESERVE WHEREAS, nylon meshing is used to protect new plants in areas near water in the forest preserves; and WHEREAS, nylon mesh is an attractive material for ingestion by animals in these areas; and WHEREAS, nylon mesh can choke such animals, and although claimed to be biodegradable, it can last for six months or more in such areas; and WHEREAS, nylon mesh is unsightly and creates safety hazards for humans and animals; and WHEREAS, modern technology should provide alternatives to the use of nylon mesh; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and members of the Forest Preserve Board of Commissioners prohibit the use of nylon mesh on forest preserve property and direct the Forests Preserve District administration to implement another material or process to protect new plants on such properties.
