PROPOSED ORDINANCE AMENDMENT

 

AN AMENDMENT TO

SECTION 44-49 OF THE COUNTY CODE

EMPLOYEE APPEALS BOARD

 

BE IT ORDAINED, by the Cook County Board of Commissioners that Section 44-49(a) of the County Code is hereby amended to read as follows:

 

Sec. 44-49.  Employee Appeals Board.

 

(a)        Created; membership; vacancies.  There is hereby created an Employee Appeals Board consisting of five members appointed by the President of the County Board for a term of six years, or until their respective successors are appointed and qualified, except that of the initially appointed board, one member shall be appointed for two years, two members shall be appointed for four years, and two members for six years.  Upon the expiration of the term of any member of the Employee Appeals Board, the President of the County Board with the advice and consent of the County Board shall appoint each successor for a term of six years and each member shall serve until a successor is appointed and qualified.  A vacancy shall be filled for the remainder of an unexpired term in the same manner as original appointments.  The President with the advice and consent of the County Board shall appoint one of the members of the board as chairperson to serve for a term of two years or until a successor is appointed.  The President of the County Board may, in the President's discretion, with the advice and consent of the County Board shall have the power to remove any member of the Employee Appeals Board for incompetence, neglect of duty or malfeasance in office.  The President of the County Board shall forthwith notify the County Board in writing of any such removal. Any vacancy created by such removal by the President shall be filled by the President pursuant to the provision of this section.

 

Effective Date:  This Ordinance will take effect on January 1, 2007.
