Forest Preserve District Online Legislative Library Launched

Wednesday, January 26, 2005
Northwest Herald

Chicago, IL Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin (13th District) is pleased to announce the launch of a comprehensive Forest Preserve District of Cook County legislative library accessible on his website, www.suffredin.org.

The library is the first of its kind for Cook County Forest Preserve District government and includes all ordinances passed or proposed by the Cook County Forest Preserve District Board of Commissioners since Commissioner Suffredin took office in December 2002. A similar database for Cook County government was launched in October 2004. With the forest preserve district library database becoming operational, Commissioner Suffredin has taken one more step towards making government more transparent and more accountable.

Additionally, the library offers Cook County residents an increased opportunity to become involved in the legislative process. Features such as ordinance summaries and bill tracking allow users to gain appreciation of an ordinance's content and scope as well as become aware of the status of the ordinance within the legislative process. Users will be alerted of legislation for which a public hearing will be held and will be provided with links detailing the hearing and instructions on how residents can participate in the hearing. Commissioner Suffredin will add his own commentary on select legislation, giving users an exclusive view of the Commissioner's positions and the effect the legislation had or will have on the overall welfare of Cook County and the Forest Preserve District.

Once users access the legislative library, several search methods can be utilized to find the legislation they are interested in. Searches can be completed by keyword, ordinance number, legislative category, sponsor, date introduced or date passed. Users can search these areas individually, or can narrow their search results by combining multiple fields and terms. The full listing of all legislation since Commissioner Suffredin took office can be accessed by leaving each search field blank and clicking the submit button.

Commissioner Suffredin encourages all residents of Cook County to take advantage of the new legislative library for the Forest Preserves to become more familiar with the actions of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County Board of Commissioners and the legislation which will ultimately impact their lives.
