Cook County clerk vows to fix election night glitches
Thursday, April 13, 2006 Daily Herald by Rob Olmstead Cook County Clerk David Orr vowed Wednesday that delays in election night results that occurred March 21 will not be repeated this fall. “We will address any technical issues relating to the voting equipment and provide our election judges with more support in the polling place so Election Day runs smoothly in the future,” Orr said in a prepared statement. Voters and candidates had to wait until the early-morning hours to find out results in crucial elections because of new voting machine technology glitches. In the case of the Cook County commissioner’s race in the Northwest suburbs, the race was not determined for days because the results were so close and several precincts remained uncounted. Orr vowed to provide additional training for judges, work with the voting machine manufacturer and come up with better fail-safe backups in case the technology fails again.
