Property Reassessment Appeal Seminars

Cook County Commissioners Larry Suffredin (District 13) and Gregg Goslin (District 14), Cook County Board of Review Commissioners Joseph Berrios and Brendan Houlihan, New Trier Township Assessor JoAnn Shrier Gordon and Evanston Township Assessor Sharon Eckersall are sponsoring a property reassessment appeal seminars for New Trier and Evanston Township residents.

Staff from the offices of Board of Review Commissioners Joseph Berrios and Brendan Houlihan will conduct the seminars. The seminars will inform homeowners how to determine whether they were over-assessed, where to gather evidence for an appeal with the Board of Review and how to fill out and file the assessment complaint form for the 2007 assessment year.  This assessment will be for taxes to be paid in September, 2008.

Evanston and New Trier Township residents have until December 7, 2007 to submit their complaint forms to the Cook County Board of Review.

Taxpayers are encouraged to bring their Assessment Notice or Property Identification Number to the seminar in order to complete and submit complaint forms at the seminar.

Commissioner Suffredin commented, "The Board of Review is Cook County's safety net to ensure citizens have a voice in obtaining a fair assessment. If your feel your assessment is improper, please take advantage of your right to appeal."
