Power restored at Cook County JailMonday, December 17, 2007 Daily Southtown by STNG News Service Power was restored early this morning to the final two divisions of the Cook County Jail placed on lockdown Sunday after water damage to a generator prompted officials to turn off power. Power was restored to the final two divisions of the Cook County Jail about 12:30 a.m. Monday, ComEd spokeswoman Arlana Johnson said. The entire complex of the Cook County Jail, 2600 S. California Ave., was on lockdown between noon and 5:15 p.m. Sunday because power was cut-off jail-wide, according to Cook County Sheriff's police spokeswoman Penny Mateck. Officers at the Cook County jail called ComEd about 2:30 p.m. because water was getting into equipment, Johnson said. The jail was on lockdown because three divisions were without power. By 6 p.m., power was restored at one division, but two divisions - the medium security division for men and the medical division for men - remained on lockdown, Mateck said. "For security issues, the entire complex was on lockdown and generators in all three buildings kicked in," Mateck said. All visitors were asked to leave the jail and the complex was only open for medical and food issues, Mateck said.
