Services, viewings are set for Stroger and Sawyer

Services and viewings for former Chicago Mayor Eugene Sawyer and former Cook County President John Stroger have been scheduled this week.

A viewing of Sawyer, who died Saturday, will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday in Vernon Park Church of God,

9011 S. Stony Island Ave.


The wake is scheduled for 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the same church, followed by a special tribute from the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, of which Sawyer was a member. Funeral services will then take place at 11 a.m. in the church.

Sawyer will be buried in Oak Woods Cemetery, 1035 E. 67th St.

A wake for Stroger, who died Friday, is scheduled for noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday in St. Columbanus Catholic Church, 331 E. 71st St.

On Wednesday, a viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. in St. Felicitas Catholic Church, 1526 East 84th St., followed by a funeral mass. Stroger's burial will take place after the mass in St. Mary's Cemetery,

87th Street
and
Hamlin Avenue
in Evergreen Park.

An informal gathering of friends, families and supporters will follow at the Apostolic Church of God,
6320 S. Dorchester Ave.
