20 candidates for county hospital panel unveiled

The list of 20 candidates for a panel that will take control of Cook County's struggling hospital system ranges from labor leaders to retired educators.

After some vetting, the 20 are likely to be presented to Cook County Board President Todd Stroger, who will whittle the list to nine. Those nine will then go for approval before the County Board.

Those selected are: Dr. David Ansell, Rush University Medical Center; Michael Anthony, attorney; Warren Batts, retired CEO at Premark International; Dr. Carl Bell, Community Mental Health Council; Norman Bobins, LaSalle Bank; Daniel Cantrell, staff to U.S. Rep. Danny Davis; David Carvalho, Illinois Department of Public Health.

Also on the list are: Margaret Davis, Healthcare Consortium of Illinois; Dr. Joseph Flaherty, University of Illinois-Chicago dean; Quin Golden, University of Chicago Medical Center; Benn Greenspan, UIC; Barbara Hillman, attorney; Lester Knight, RoundTable Healthcare Partners; Dr. Carol Lopez, Institute of Medicine of Chicago; Sister Sheila Lyne, Mercy Hospital; Dr. Luis Munoz, WorkCare Medical Management; Heather O'Donnell, Center for Tax and Budget Accountability; Jorge Ramirez, Chicago Federation of Labor; James Stukel, former president University of Illinois; Andrea Zopp, Exelon Corp.
