Stroger seeks 1-year halt to home foreclosures Sunday, September 14, 2008

by CHERYL V. JACKSON Cook County Board President Todd Stroger is calling for a yearlong moratorium on home foreclosures by lenders, leading an effort to gather signatures to present to state lawmakers.
"People are coming up to him, crying and asking for help," Stroger spokesman Eugene Mullins said.
The move, which Stroger will detail today at Sweet Holy Spirit Church, 8621 S. South Chicago Ave., is part of the county's efforts to address the home foreclosure crisis in Illinois.
Stroger also is funding workshops by Boston-based Neighborhood Assistance Corp. of America (Naca.com) to help homeowners in renegotiating mortgages.
The workshops will be every weekend through October. For more information, call (773) 723-6222.
