Public Defender clerk cleared of pot chargeFriday, February 27, 2009 SouthtownStar by Sun Times News Group A woman was acquitted of a drug charge stemming from allegations she
accepted a large package of marijuana brought to her while she was
working at the Cook County Public Defender's office in 2007.
Lamour Holloway was found innocent of one count of possession of
cannabis with intent to deliver more than 5,000 grams during a bench
trial Thursday before Cook County Judge Rosemary Grant Higgins,
according to Cook County state's attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra
Simonton.
Holloway was working as a Cook County Public Defender's office clerk
when she was nabbed Nov. 27, 2007, after a Chicago police officer
delivered a package containing more than 38 pounds of marijuana posing
as a UPS deliveryman.
At the time of her arrest, Holloway was a $34,000-a-year clerk in
the public defender's office who at the time had worked for the public
defender's office since 1997, records show.
A spokeswoman from the public defender's office was not immediately available for comment Friday.
