Cook Commissioners Suffredin, Claypool, Gainer and Schneider propose a roll back of the sales tax.Wednesday, April 15, 2009 Special to suffredin.org Four Cook County Commissioners proposed today to gradually
phase out Board President Todd Stroger’s record-breaking sales tax
increase. The proposal would mandate a quarter point reduction in the tax
in each of the next four years.
“We welcome president Stroger’s election-eve conversion on
the issue of tax relief, but we shouldn’t stop at a quarter point,” said
commissioner Larry Suffredin. “The initial sales tax increase achieved
its intended effect – we stabilized our health system. Now we should join
with the efforts of the Independent Health Board by working together to finally
reform this government, so we can eliminate the entire tax.”
