Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin will be honored by Coordinated Advice & Referral Program for Legal Services (CARPLS) on May 13th at the organization’s 10th Anniversary Celebration.

CARPLS selected Commissioner Suffredin as a recipient of the Golden Gavel Award because of his pivotal role in helping the legal aid community pass the Illinois Equal Justice Act in 1999. Recognizing the state’s responsibility to ensure equal access to the legal system, the Act also created the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation, which distributes the state's appropriation for civil legal aid to not-for-profit organizations throughout the state.

"As a lawyer, I value the work CARPLS has done in the last ten years to provide legal advice and referrals to more than 150,000 low-income clients in Cook County. I am honored to be receiving the Golden Gavel Award and look forward to CARPLS continued success in the coming years," Suffredin said.

Commissioner Suffredin will be presented with the Golden Gavel Award at the CARPLS 10th Anniversary Celebration to be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2003 at Northern Trust, 50 South LaSalle Street in Chicago from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

For more information on the 10th Anniversary Celebration or its legal services, please contact CARPLS by phone at 312-738-9494 or visit the CARPLS website at www.carpls.org.
