Ex-Stroger deputy files for unemployment Carla Oglesby, removed from post after arrest and indictment for felony theft, now seeking assistance from IDES Wednesday, October 20, 2010 Chicago Tribune A former top aide to Cook County Board President Todd Stroger who faces felony theft charges in a contracting scandal has filed for unemployment benefits, a county spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
Former Deputy Chief of Staff Carla Oglesby recently submitted the paperwork to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, said Marcel Bright, a Stroger spokesman.
The county's human resources department, in turn, filled out forms requested by state officials, who will decide whether Oglesby gets benefits, he said. Bright declined to divulge specifics, saying it was a personnel matter. A source told the Tribune that Oglesby filed the claim on Oct. 10, six days after she was arrested and charged with felony theft, money laundering and official misconduct.
She is accused of stealing more than $300,000 in taxpayer money by authorizing bogus contracts for herself and others. Little or no work was done for those payments, prosecutors said.
