Suffredin-Sponsored Resolution Regarding Possible Re-Use of Cook County Hospital Building to be Reviewed by County Committees

June 20, 2003, Chicago, IL. There will be a Public Hearing of the Health & Hospitals and Construction Committees of the Cook County Board on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Board Room, Room 569, County Building, 118 N. Clark Street, Chicago, Illinois to consider a Resolution concerning the possible re-use of the Cook County Hospital building that was introduced by Commissioners Suffredin and Silvestri and co-sponsored by Commissioners Quigley and Murphy at the Board of Commissioners meeting on June 17, 2003.

The purpose of the Committees' meeting on June 24, 2003 is to consider the merits of the Resolution and to determine whether to hold a fuller hearing at which time developers could present detailed plans for re-use and redevelopment for the main Cook County Hospital building. "Tuesday's meeting is a hearing to have another hearing," explained Commissioner Suffredin, who believes that potential re-use plans and alternatives to demolition of the main hospital structure, built in 1914, must be explored before the taxpayers of Cook County spend $20-30 million in demolition costs.

Members of the public may testify at Tuesday's meeting. Persons wishing to testify should give their name and the name of any organization they represent to the Secretary to the Board, telephone: 312-603-6127. Each organization will be limited to one speaker. Each speaker will be limited to 3 minutes. Speakers are requested to submit 30 copies of any written statement to the committee prior to speaking.
