New website has details on summer jobs and activities for youth in ChicagoSaturday, April 07, 2012 Chicago Tribune CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago and Cook County are joining forces to provide summer jobs and other opportunities to keep children and youth safe this summer.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle announced One Summer Chicago on Friday. It's a partnership between government and community groups and will provide 17,000 summer jobs and 168,000 educational and recreational opportunities.
One Summer Chicago includes a targeted jobs program called One Summer PLUS. That program is aimed at youth from about a dozen high schools in communities with higher crime rates.
A new website — OneSummerChicago.org — allows young people to apply for jobs through a common application and provides registration information on other opportunities. The site will have details on jobs, internships, summer camps, sports programs and summer field trips.
