Larry Suffredin, Commissioner 13th District Cook County Board of Commissioners-
should be Reelected
Tuesday, June 01, 2004 Evanston Sentinel Larry Suffredin was elected Cook County commissioner for the 13th District in November 2002 and took office in December 2002. As a Freshman member, Suffredin was named Chairman of the Board's Legislation and Intergovernmental Relations Committee, Which is charged with recommending county position on state and federal legislation, tracking state and federal funds earmarked for the county and reviewing appointments to county boards and commissions. He also serves on the Litigation Subcommittee, the Tax and revenue Subcommittee and the Botanic Garden Committee.
Suffredin is a life long resident of Chicago and is a highly successful attorney with a legal career spanning nearly three decades. He has extensive state and federal trail experience, and has argued cases before the United States and Illinois Appellate Court.
As an attorney, Suffredin built a reputation as a government relation's specialist at the local stat, and federal levels, and is known for his broad knowledge of government and politics he is a partner at Shefsky & Froelich.
Suffredin had held several public services posts and is currently Chair of Suburban Job-Link, a not for profit job development company, He also serves on the boards of several community organizations; the Illinois Council against Handgun Violence; The Center for Law and Human Services; and the Illinois Death Penalty Education Project.
Suffredin received a Bachelor's form Loyola University Chicago and his law degree from Georgetown University. He is a Captain in the United States Air Force Reserves.
Suffredin and his wife, Gloria Callaci, live in Evanston and have two grown children, Tom and Elizabeth.
Larry Suffredin stands up for more affordable housing for Evanston Westside 2nd and 5th Wards. We support the idea that something needs to be done about the growing rate of boarded up foreclosed properties, finding a way to keep people in homes when it is possible. Many families have problems due to delinquent mortgage payments or unpaid real estate taxes due to family emergencies and loss of work. We need more Section 8 housing in Evanston and help for those who need help getting repairs done. Some people due to lack of funds have problems paying their utilities.
Is it possible for us to set up a system to help these families in crisis? As a community can we help them deal with these problems? The answer is yes if we come and work together. It would be good for the City of Evanston to work more closely with the Board of Cook County Commissioners and Larry Suffredin to resolve these problems.
Lastly one truly good thing about Suffredin office is the great Ms. Karen Chavers, Director of Community Outreach. She should get more credit for all the good work she does around this Evanston Community keep up the good work! What a positive Lady.
We feel that Mr. Suffredin has made some good accomplishment in his first term and under the direction of our chairman, Rev. Hardist E. Lane, and we support him in those efforts. We have every reason to believe that Mr. Suffredin will continue to stand for integrity and high moral principles in Evanston.
We support Mr. Larry Suffredin in the November 2nd race for Commissioner of the 13th District of Cook County Board of Commissioner.
