Suffredin Announces Passage of Lower Speed Limit on Lake Avenue in WilmetteThursday, June 17, 2004
Special to suffredin.org Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin (13th District) and the full Cook County Board passed an ordinance Tuesday, June 15, 2004 to lower the speed limit from 35 MPH to 30 MPH on Lake Avenue in Wilmette from Skokie Boulevard to Ridge Road. The new speed limit was recommended by the Village and community activists as the quickest way to protect both pedestrians and motorists on this mainly residential stretch of Lake Avenue. The new speed limit takes effect when posted.
"The Village leadership and citizens are to be thanked for their constructive work in dealing with the serious issues of traffic safety on Lake Avenue," Commissioner Suffredin stated.
"The County will continue to work with the Village on other traffic safety issues for Lake Avenue," Suffredin added. Lake Avenue is a County highway under the jurisdiction of the Cook County Highway Department.
