Evanston Township Property Reassessment To Be Mailed June 24, 2004

Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin (13th District) wants to alert Evanston Township residents to look for their reassessment notices from Cook County Assessor Jim Houlihan after June 24th.

"Citizens will have a 45 day appeals period once the notices are mailed on June 24th. The Assessor and I will hold local meetings to explain the assessment process and to assist property owners with their appeals," Suffredin stated.

These meetings will be held in various locations in Evanston. The actual time and place will be announced next week.

"Our office at 820 Davis will be able to answer questions concerning the appeal process," Suffredin added.

Since Governor Blagojevich has not yet signed Senate Bill 2112, the assessment notices will not reflect the 7% cap in assessment increases that the legislature passed last month. When that measure becomes law, adjustments in assessments will be made," Suffredin stated. "The Governor's action to sign the bill is expected soon."

Commissioner Suffredin testified in favor of the 7% bill in Springfield and is the sponsor of the Cook County Board resolution needed to apply the 7% cap to Cook County.

"Please carefully read your reassessment notice and watch the media for other information that will protect your property and save you tax dollars," Suffredin reminded citizens.
