The Cook County Board of Commissioners, in a committee-of-the-whole, today, voted to hold a hearing to consider possible re-uses of the 1914 Main Cook County Hospital building.  The Resolution requesting the hearing was sponsored by Commissioners Silvestri and Suffredin and co-sponsored by Commissioners Quigley, Murphy and Hansen.

At such hearing, to be scheduled in the coming months, interested developers will be expected to present proposals and financing options for possible re-use of the building.

Commissioner Suffredin indicated that he was pleased with the Board’s willingness to consider other uses of the building rather than just demolishing it.  Commissioner Suffredin believes that various proposals on re-use could save the County as much as $30 million in demolition costs.
