Newly inaugurated Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin has hired three full-time staff to provide constituent service for residents of the 13th District and to manage the District's Evanston office. Suffredin's office in the County Building is open for business and the Evanston office is expected to be open to visitors by month's end.

Evanstonian Karen Chavers will serve as the Director of Community Outreach and will be primarily responsible for working with constituents and community groups in the district. Chavers has nearly two decades of experience organizing and leading efforts to develop and build community based coalitions in metropolitan Chicago, including serving as Executive Director of the Evanston Neighborhood Conference, an organization that promotes racial, ethnic and economic diversity and justice. Chavers also has in-depth experience in housing, community development, cross cultural communications and human resources. She was recently appointed to the Cook County Housing Authority Board.

Skokie resident Dave Davis will serve as Office Manager and Technology Consultant and will manage the daily operations and technology at the District office. Previously, Davis was a management and technology consultant with Accenture, specializing in project management and implementation.

Chicagoan Michelle Devine will serve as the Director of Intergovernmental Relations and work closely with Cook County, state and local government agencies and officials. Prior to joining the Commissioner's staff, Devine was the Associate Director of the Illinois Women's Funding Federation and worked with the Programs and Development Unit of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. Devine has worked to improve the lives of women and families in Illinois. She is past President of the Chicago Chapter of the National Organization for Women and now serves on the board for the PEACH Club, an organization that provides educational and arts programming for children.

Commissioner Suffredin's staff will work with the task forces he has established to guide policy development on forest preserves, courts, tax and revenue, and community health. Karen Chavers will serve as the staff liaison for the Community Health and Court Reform task forces. Michelle Devine will serve as the staff liaison for the Forest Preserve and Tax & Revenue Reform task forces.

Larry Suffredin was elected to the position of Cook County Commissioner for the 13th District in November 2002 and took office in December 2002. Suffredin is Chairman of the Legislation & Intergovernmental Relations Committee, which is charged with recommending county positions on state and federal legislation, tracking state and federal funds earmarked for the county and reviewing appointments to county boards and commissions. He resides in Evanston with his family.
