Niles Township Condominium Owners to Receive Revised Reassessment & Appeal Deadline Extended

Tuesday, September 21, 2004
Special to suffredin.org

Cook County, Illinois. Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin, 13th District, has learned that Cook County Assessor James M. Houlihan will be mailing revised reassessment notices to some condominium owners in Niles Township.

The Assessor's Office discovered that due to a computer error, the first set of notices mailed on August 9th did not reflect the most current assessed value. Revised notices have subsequently been sent to 200 condo buildings, or a total of 5,021 condo units. Assessments of new condominiums built less than one year ago, as well as all other Niles Township properties, were listed correctly and those property owners will not receive revised notices.

The original deadline to file appeals for properties located in Niles Township has been extended from September 24th to October 15th. The extension applies to all properties in the Township.

Reassessment notices contain values that will be reflected on the second installment tax bills due in the fall of 2005. The time to file appeals on these proposed assessments is now, however, when the reassessment notices are received.

Commissioner Suffredin encourages all condominium owners to talk with their condo boards or associations to determine if the board or association will file an appeal on behalf of all the owners. Any property owner that feels he or she has been over assessed is encouraged to file and appeal with Assessor Houlihan's Office by the October 15th deadline.
