Nature invites you into this brand new year

Happy 2018, everyone!

Here at the Forest Preserve Foundation, we know that nature invites us to enjoy every season. So in this brand new year, we hope you will embrace and enjoy all of nature’s beauty in the Forest Preserves of Cook County.

Early January is a lovely time to drop into one of the Preserves’ nature centers or take a winter ecology hike.

The Preserves offer nearly 70,000 acres of wild and wonderful forest woodlands, wetlands, prairies and savannas to explore, including more than 300 miles of marked trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing; numerous sledding hills and snowmobile areas; five campgrounds; six Nature Centers; more than 20 dedicated Illinois nature preserves, and more.

If there’s one New Year’s resolution we recommend, it’s getting out there and discovering your own nature adventures in the Forest Preserves. For a quick start, here are three ideas:

  • Try an Evening Owl Hike Friday, Jan. 5.
  • Check out the Forest Preserves Winter Yoga event series.
  • Meet us at Winter Exploration Day. Learn how to navigate using orienteering skills, create snowshoes and backpacks from natural materials, and track animals that make the Preserves their home during winter.

Best wishes for a nature-filled year ahead.
