Majority of Village Officials Reveal Economic InterestsFriday, July 13, 2012
by Renita Young Eighteen out of 19 Evergreen Park officials complied with Cook County Clerk David Orr's mandate for public officials of Chicago and the county to submit statements of economic interests.
Each year, public officials in Cook County are required to submit statements of economic interests for activity during the preceding calendar year, and this year, 18 out of 19Evergreen Park officials who were listed complied. This marks the second year that government officials and public employees have filed statements online, and the data is searchablethrough the clerk's public portal, according to a statement issued by Cook County Clerk David Orr's office. William Hronec, a member of the Evergreen Park Zoning Board, did not file. The village of Evergreen Park had four officials who filed late, which included the only person to give details of filings. Edwin Lammel, an Evergreen Park Fire Pension Plan trustee, filed on May 17, more than two weeks after the May 1 deadline. According to his filing, he was an officer, director, associate, partner or proprietor or served in any advisory capacity for the Evergreen Park Fire Pension Board, earning an income in excess of $1,200.00 during 2011. Lammel filed that he did business with the Fire Pension Board while in that position. Additionally, Lammel filed that he was also employed by the Village of Evergreen Park under the Fire Pension Board. There are 14 officials who filed under more than one local government entity. This included Mayor James Sexton who filed as Chairman of the Evergreen Park Fire Pension Plan in addition to Mayor. County-wide, 98 percent were compliant, according to Orr. "Nearly 200 public officials listed gifts from honoraria to baseball tickets in a summary released today of 2011 Statement of Economic Interests filings for Cook County," said Orr. No gifts were listed from any of Evergreen Park's 18 officials who complied.
